Robert F. Edmunds Jr.

Robert “Bob” Edmunds Jr. ’66, a devoted Merrimack alumnus, trustee and benefactor, died April 26 following a long illness. He was 72.

Mr. Edmunds graduated with honors from Merrimack before earning a Master of Business Administration from the University of Hartford. He met Mary Louise (Donahue) ’66 in college, and they married a year after graduating.

Mr. Edmunds went on to a successful  career in the business his father established, Edmunds Gages, designing and building custom measuring equipment.

He was a passionate supporter of Merrimack’s engineering students and often offered internships at his Farmington, Connecticut-based company. He was a member of the board of trustees and former member of the president’s advisory board; a recipient of the St. Augustine Award; and a regular attendee of alumni events in Naples, Florida.

Proud of his 37 consecutive years of supporting Merrimack, Mr. Edmunds generously supported the Edward J. Donahue Scholarship, the Rev. George Morgan Scholarship, the Warrior Fund and the St. Germain Award, which was named for his uncle, the late history and political science professor James J. St. Germain.

He was a member of Merrimack’s varsity golf team and later in life was president of the Farmington (Connecticut) Golf Club as well as a board member of Farmington Bank.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Edmunds is survived by two daughters, a son, three sisters and five grandchildren.
