Merrimack Records Most Successful Fall Campaign in Recent History

The fall Merrimack Athletics campaign was highlighted by two NCAA Tournament appearances, while the Warriors won nearly 75% of their conference games.

Bolstered by a third-place finish at the NCAA Regionals, the women’s cross country team advanced to its firstever NCAA Tournament in Spokane Washington. Kristin Schmidt and Fiona Coleman posted top-20 finishes at the NCAA Regionals to lead the Warriors in their historic season.

Field Hockey

The Warriors advanced to their thirdstraight and third-ever NCAA Final Four. Ranked as high as sixth nationally, Merrimack had four All-Americans, eight all-conference selections and finished second in the Northeast-10. Senior Jess Otis was named NFHCA North Region Player of the Year.

Following last year’s campaign in which the Warriors reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever, this year’s squad narrowly missed out on a second-straight bid, finishing 13-4-2 overall. Jose Silva was named the Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year for the second straight season as Merrimack returned to the conference championship before falling to the eventual National Champion Southern New Hampshire 1-0.

Volleyball

Reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2010, the Warriors reached the Northeast-10 Championship, coming one set away from their first conference title. Stephanie Sheehan led the league in kills, while Tara Stuhr was the league’s Setter of the Year. Merrimack won nine league matches in 2013, seven more than in 2012.

Merrimack boasted the top offense in the league for the fifth straight season, led by Northeast-10 Offensive Player of the Year Joe Clancy, who set conference records for passing yards in a season. The Warriors defeated Division I Wagner 42- 41 and finished fifth in the conference with a 7-4 record.

Women’s Soccer

Merrimack recorded its 30th-straight winning season, finishing fourth in the conference with a 10-6-2 mark.

Merrimack won both of its fall events, highlighted by an impressive victory at the New Hampshire Championships.
